At KIYOMI, we aspire to be more than a destination for omakase in Toronto. We see ourselves as a place of exchange, where exceptional food and drink meet the stories, traditions, and quiet craftsmanship of Japan.
Through this journal, we will share what inspires us at KIYOMI: our events, the philosophy behind omakase, and the culture shaping Japan’s table, from food and sake to whisky and beyond.
Japanese Whisky: Craftsmanship and Global Recognition
Japanese whisky has earned international acclaim for its refined balance, attention to detail, and meticulous production standards. Drawing early inspiration from traditional Scotch methods while developing a distinctly Japanese identity, these whiskies are celebrated for their elegance, precision, and sense of harmony. 1

In recent decades, Japanese distilleries have gained widespread recognition at global competitions, helping position Japanese whisky in Toronto and other major cities as a sought-after tasting experience for both seasoned collectors and those discovering the category for the first time.
As global interest continues to grow, experiential tastings that bring together education, culture, and cuisine have become an essential expression of modern fine dining. 2
KIYOMI: Japanese Fine Dining with Thoughtful Whisky Pairings
At KIYOMI, we have curated a distinctive whisky collection: one we are deeply proud of and eager to share. Through thoughtfully designed events, we offer guests the opportunity to explore a selection of Japanese whiskies, paired with dishes that highlight each expression’s depth and complexity without ever overpowering the palate.
As one of Toronto’s top omakase destinations, KIYOMI approaches whisky not as an accompaniment, but as part of a broader conversation between spirit, cuisine, and craftsmanship. Our Beverage Director, Robin Morgan, will be sharing a deeper dive into the world of Japanese whisky in the coming weeks. We invite you to check back as we continue the conversation, glass by glass.

KIYOMI’s Inaugural Japanese Whisky Tasting Event
On December 12th, 2025, KIYOMI hosted its inaugural Japanese whisky tasting—an intimate evening dedicated to the depth, elegance, and craftsmanship of Japanese whisky. Guided by KIYOMI’s Beverage Director and whisky ambassador, Robin Morgan, guests explored the aromas, flavours, and distillery stories behind five exceptional whiskies from our growing collection.
Each tasting was paired with a thoughtfully curated sushi and tempura omakase menu, designed to complement and elevate each pour without ever overpowering the experience. The evening reflected KIYOMI’s philosophy: a quiet dialogue between food, whisky, and the people gathered to experience both.

With Japanese whisky in high demand globally3, diners are increasingly drawn to food and whisky experiences that combine refined cuisine with carefully curated spirit tastings.
Looking Ahead: Japanese Whisky Events at KIYOMI
As KIYOMI’s whisky collection evolves, we look forward to welcoming guests to future evenings celebrating rare Japanese whiskies alongside refined omakase dining.
Our next Whisky Tasting takes place on February 6, 2026. This marks the beginning of an ongoing journey, one that brings together craftsmanship, culture, and community through Japanese whisky in Toronto.
